Five Reasons Why Facebook Rules

While Facebook has been a major website almost since it hit the Internet, 2010 saw its rapid rise and spread throughout the world and the Internet as a whole. The Facebook phenomenon is unparalleled in social media worth. These five reasons describe precisely why it is highly unlikely that Facebook shuts down anytime soon.

1) Social Media as Marketing Tool

While Facebook was always a way for people to connect with people, 2010 saw the rise of Facebook used to connect businesses with people. By providing Facebook-only discounts, Facebook credits, community discussion boards, and a central location for all direct engagement with customers, Facebook business pages became a vital component of a business’ marketing strategy almost overnight. Furthermore, Facebook became more business-friendly as a whole, allowing businesses to connect with customers through advertisements based on information on customers’ Facebook profiles. In fact, practically every page of any importance has “Like” buttons next to each piece of content on the site. This “Like” button allows users to tell their friends what sorts of websites they visit in real-time, with a literal click of a button. The Like button changed the nature of Internet marketing, seeing a rise in organic methods of advertising. Word-of-mouth advertising is much easier today, thanks by and large to the social trends provided by Facebook.

2) Improved Apps

Facebook’s Developer Driven development also saw the rise of social apps, a unique Facebook phenomenon. Games which were half achievement-oriented, traditional play and half the social experience provided by Facebook exploded in popularity during 2010 and show no signs of stopping. Apps were created not just for gameplay but for a wide variety of uses, all of which emphasized a social component. While playing with and talking to people over long distances was once the purview of online gamers, by and large young males, Facebook apps have widened the appeal of that activity to nearly every demographic.

3) Accessibility

With the rising popularity of smartphones used to surf the web, it is clear that online access from any location, at any time is going to become as ubiquitous as electricity, roads and other infrastructure elements. Phones like the T-Mobile Galaxy S or AT&T’s iPhone let you download Facebook apps on your phone for instant access, enabling users to log in anytime, anyplace.

Unlike many social media sites, Facebook emphasizes its messaging platform, showing that it’s on the cutting edge of technology. For instance, Facebook messaging is a form of free email hosting accessible through any channels. With the rising popularity of smartphones used to surf the web, it is clear that online access from any location, at any time is going to become as ubiquitous as electricity, roads and other infrastructure elements. Facebook understands that no matter where we are or what we’re doing, we’re going to want to connect with our friends and family that is why many new phones nowadays come with a built-in Facebook button. Facebook’s messaging system is so easy to use and connect with that it is indeed a Titan.

4) Constant User Interface Updates

While Facebook users often complain whenever the UI changes, by and large all of the Facebook user interface updates have been well-executed, resulting in a more fluid, dynamic experience of connecting with friends over the Internet. Through it all, Facebook has never lost its core principles, among them being unlimited web hosting for all of its users’ social interactions and personal information. Constant evolution always marks a growth-oriented company, and Facebook definitely fits that bill.

5) Rise of the “Social Web”

Facebook by far is the most sociable social network out there since it has been integrating openly with major players in the online community beginning with its competitor Myspace and now with Flickr as well.

All in all, Facebook is here to stay and as forecasts show set to rule the cyber world!

Microsoft new search engine, Bing.com ready to apply decision approach to its searches

The competition in the search engine market is not all about search engine market & their providers but its all about the technology that makes the difference.

Bing.com, yes the rebranded version of Microsoft Live Search system, launched last week, is the latest iteration of Microsoft’s search engine, and it’s innovative enough for Microsoft introducing the new “Decision Engine” approach focusing & helping customers use search to make better decisions.

Innovative Addons in Bing.com:

  • Decision Engine approach
  • Explorer pane on the left hand side
  • Easy Navigation between Categories/Related Searches
  • Text results early previews
  • A more smarter search engine
  • More easy searching related areas: making a purchase, planning a trip, researching a health condition or finding a local business.

Google Search Engine is far ahead in the respective heuristic market & many other new technologies are still going in the race. Microsoft with its newly featured Bing.com, lets see how it tackles Google’s huge market dominance & search empire.

Make your Web Searches More Effective & 10 Times Faster | Use Operators & Limiters

Everyday more than billions of searches are done on various search engines & more than half of that on Google, each search yielding about another thousand results. Nobody wants to spend time scrolling through thousands of search results to find the page that contains the information they’re looking for. In fact, few people bother looking beyond the first page of 10 results, choosing instead to re craft their search phrase and try again. Some go for more advanced searches but its complexity in taking inputs is even more time taking.

But with the help of a few search operators, you can increase substantially the chances that you’ll find what you’re looking for on your first search try. So, here comes the role of operators & limiters to make your searches more effective & about 10 times faster in showing the exact result.

Using (~) Operator

Place a tilde (~) directly in front of your search term to find pages with words similar to the term in question. So searching ~inexpensive domains will return pages that have the term “cheap domains,” “affordable domains,” and “low-cost domains” as well.

Using (+) Operator

Use the plus sign (+) to search for two terms appearing together.

Using (-) Operator

Use the minus sign (-) to find pages that contain one term but not another.

Using (*) Operator

Use the asterisk (*) wildcard to search for a term along with any other word, and quotes (“blah de blah”) to find an exact phrase.

Using (site:) Limiter

If you looking for on the site by going to Google or another search engine, and entering a search term along with site:www.thesitename.com (or .org, .edu, etc.) will yield you the exact website with specified URLs.

Using (define:) Limiter

Use define:word to return a definition.

Using (link:) Limiter

Use link:url to find pages that contain a link to a specific site or page.

Using (inurl:) Limiter

Use inurl:searchterm (or allinurl:searchterm) to retrieve pages whose URL contains a specific word or phrase.

Using (intitle:) Limiter

Use intitle:searchterm (or allintitle:searchterm the find pages with the word or phrase in their title; and,

Using ( info:) Limiter

Use info:url (or id:url) to get information about the page.

Using (safesearch:) Limiter

To keep adult-oriented content out of the results, use safesearch: searchterm.

To Find Weather

If you’re looking for a weather report, simply enter weather place or zip code and press Enter to see the temperature, conditions, and forecast for that locale.

Using (related:) Limiter

And to see pages similar to another page, type related: url.

**Javascript Bonus

Curious about when the page you’re on was last updated? Just type javascript:alert(document.lastModified) in the address bar and press Enter to see the date and time in a pop-up window.

In my previous article on Torrents, Ultimate Beginners Guide for Torrents, Ken asked me this in his comment

I do not know how to start a Torrent, search for a torrent or download a torrent because I Know Nothing at all about Torrents and would like to know if you can help me, Please?

So, here is a step by step tutorial to

1. Download and Install a BitTorrent Client

2. Find and Download a File

If you want to learn from basics & understand more about torrents, torrent trackers, BitTorrent Clients, Limewires & how does torrent works? you can see this & can learn about a faster & better search engine for torrents, Kisckasstorrents here.

Download and Install a BitTorrent Client

  • Click on Save File.
  • When the download is finished, go to BitComet Setup(.exe File) double-click on it.
  • Click Run, Ok, Next, I Agree, I Agree, Next and Install. The program will install. Click Finish. The program will start up.

Find and Download a File

  • Click on the text field near the top left of the page, and type in your desired ebook, game name etc. Click Search.
  • You will be taken to a search-results page.
  • You will probably see a page like this, with a mix of files with different sizes.
  • Click on the name (widest column) of a torrent that sounds good. That row will expand to display some ads, a Download .torrent link, and information about the files that the torrent links to. Click on the Download .torrent link.

To the right you see a number of Seeds and Leechers for each Torrent. A Seed is a user who has the whole file and is sharing it. A Leecher is someone who, like you, is in the process of downloading the file.

So you’ll want to pick a version of the file that has lots of Seeds and Leechers, so that the download is faster and more certain to be successful.

  • If you have never downloaded a torrent before, a window will pop up, asking what you want to do with this file. Choose “Open with BitComet”, check “Do this automatically for files like this from now on” or “Always use this program to open similar files”.
  • BitComet should open automatically and ask you if you want to download this file. Click OK.
  • Wait patiently for the file to download. When it’s done, the file will be in the C:Downloads folder.

Install BitComet Free BitTorrent Client & Speed up Downloading[Video]

Looking on Common File Extensions

  • If the file is a .MP3, .RM then it is an audio file which you can play in a music player.
  • If the file is a .AVi, .MP4, etc, then it is a movie file you can watch on your computer or transfer to a DVD, iPod, PSP, etc.
  • If the file ends with .RAR or .ZIP, then it’s basically a kind of archive ZIP file, and you need to decompress it using WinRAR.
  • If the file ends with VOB, ISO, CUE/BIN, or if it’s a VIDEO_TS folder, then it can be burned onto a DVD for viewing on a DVD player.

Remember, downloading media on BitTorrent is illegal.

Virtual Touch Layer Keyboards and Projection Technologies | A Voyage of the Virtual World

A Voyage of the Virtual World, A section devoted to the hats-off innovative techniques & devices which are not only providing best solutions to present day e-scenarios but also opening new realms in innovations, exploring new future-tech possibilities & prophetic visions. As the result of Virtual touch layer and Projection technologies, the Virtual Keyboard is the live example of the human imaginations realizing to truth.
Virtual Keyboards(also known as onscreen keyboard, soft keyboard, virtual laser keyboard (The VKB), projection keyboard) software and/or hardware component combination, with the primary purpose to provide full QWERTY keyboard functionalities virtually to the user like entering characters & keystrokes. They can be projected and touched on any surface. The keyboard watches your fingers move and translates that action into keystrokes in the device. Most systems can also function as a virtual mouse. Each time touching the image on the surface of a key generates a unique electronic signal corresponding to a key’s image. Virtual keyboards are also used as features of emulation software for systems that have fewer buttons than a computer keyboard would have.
Virtual keyboards are also compatible with many Smartphones and PDAs & are replacing the millions of foldout keyboards sold for Palm and other handhelds in the smart cellular phone market.

With a large number of applications including projection notepads that track any pen, pencil or pen-like object; gestural interfaces for devices with inconvenient or ultra-small form-factors or locations (ie-wearable computers); and user identification and authentication through facial recognition, sight-enabled applications in consumer games, premise security, automobiles, military-aerospace, and medical applications. Using these virtual facilities the chance of breakage and infection transfer is reduced. Additionally virtual keyboards require no cleaning and they have no wires, buttons, or switches. All mechanical input units can be replaced by such virtual devices, optimized for the current application and for the user’s physiology maintaining speed, simplicity and unambiguity of manual data input.

Senseboard Technologies (http://www.senseboard.com) further extending the capabilities by providing the technology. The user can type on a hard surface like a desk or table, or into the air. The hand-mounts measure finger two hand-mounted devices that connect to the target computing device with the help of Bluetooth wireless networkingovements and tell the handheld what keys the user intends to press, based on the ubiquitous QWERTY keyboard layout. There’s also a pause function to capture the motion of the fingers and hands, enabling keyboard functionality.

Kitty (http://www.kittytech.com), a finger mounted keyboard for data entry into PDA’s, Pocket PC’s and Wearable Computers. KITTY, an acronym for Keyboard-Independent Touch-TYping, is a fingermounted keyboard that uses touch-typing as the method of data entry. The device targets the portable computing market and in particular wearable computing systems, which are in the need of a silent, “invisible” data entry system based on touch-typing. The new device combines the idea of a finger-mounted chording device (such as the “Twiddler” by the HandKey Corp.), with the advantages of a system that uses touch-typing (such as the Virtual Keyboard by Senseboard or the Scurry by Samsung) References: Canesta(http://www.canesta.com) Developer VKB Inc (http://www.vkb.co.il/) Virtual Devices(http://www.virtualdevices.net/)
