If you are a Blogger, You have to Tweet – Says Technorati Analysis

Yes if you are a blogger, you blog, then you have to Tweet. Why? Lets see.

Bloggers use Twitter much more than does the general population. Yes it is true. Bloggers say they use Twitter to promote their blogs, bring interesting links to light, and to get a feel for what people are talking about.

In year 2009, the trends set by Twitter, the most eminent microblogging service today have made a huge impact on bloggers & have came as the leading blogosphere trends for this year. This is what State of the Blogosphere 2009 report from the blog search engine, Technorati analysed while leading blogosphere trends for 2009.

About 73 percent of bloggers use Twitter, compared to about 14 percent of the general population. About 52 percent of Twittering bloggers are syndicating their blog posts to Twitter.

Technorati found that blogs with more than 100 page views a day received just 0.83 percent of their page views from Twitter referrals.

In fact, some bloggers (26 percent) spend so much time on Twitter that it has eaten into the time that they spend updating their blogs.

Now look at the bloggers are not using Twitter. Among the bloggers who don’t use it, 35 percent say they simply don’t understand the point of it. Another 54 percent say they feel no need to blog the details of their personal lives, in spite of the popularity of personal musings.

Technorati’s report also focused on the growing political influence of bloggers. The blogosphere’s impact on elections, from local politics to national elections, is growing. (Image Credits: Technorati)

Do you agree with the report from Technorati? Is Twitter is impacting the global nature & future of blogging? If yes, How?

How to Backup and Synchronise Bookmarks in Mozilla Firefox

If you bookmark a lot of websites & love to save important webpages as bookmarks, it’s always a good idea to have them backed them up somewhere. The best backup place, of course, is the Internet where all your bookmarks stay safe from any possible hardware failures that may cripple your PC.

We are going to How to effectively backup and synchronize your bookmarks in Mozilla Firefox, one of the most widely used web browsers.

Delicious for all!

Del.icio.usDelicious is no stranger to us, being the largest online bookmark organizing and sharing service. Meanwhile, Delicious also offers official add-ons for Firefox and Internet Explorer that keep the bookmarks in your browser and your Delicious account completely synchronized. If you’re using another browser, simply grab the Bookmark on Delicious bookmark-let and use it to save bookmarks in your Delicious account (rather than your browser).

You can add Inforids.com on delicious.

Of course, Delicious isn’t the end of the world, and you can choose from various other options if you want to. Read on!

Mozilla Firefox

We all love Firefox. With over 6000+ add-ons and counting, there are always more than one ways to get something done with this browser. And backing up bookmarks is no exception.

Like IE, manually backing up bookmarks in Firefox is dead simple.

Using Xmarks

Xmarks (previously Foxmarks) is a solid add-on that can sync your bookmarks and even passwords across multiple PCs. In addition, Xmarks can suggest tags for new bookmarks, and show information about your visited sites based on this bookmark database.

Xmarks is also available as Foxmarks for IE 6 / 7 and Safari 3(Mac OS X only), though with significantly less features.

How do you organise, backup and sync your bookmarks? Let us know your techniques. Say in the comments.

Using .htaccess to Prevent Images Hotlinking & Saving your Web Hosting Bandwidth

Did you ever noticed that your images are being hotlinked on someone else’s server and consuming your server bandwidth? This is actually is direct linking to a web site’s files (images, video, etc.).without your permission.

It is bad, as it not only stealing our images, it also take advantage of our bandwidths. Since web hosts charge based on the amount of data transferred, bandwidth is an issue.

Hotlinking should be stopped because others undesirable consequences like switcheroo can often occur.

Using control over.htaccess is one of the most efficient way to prevent image hotlinking. Go through the following steps:

Creating & Placing .htaccess in Root (main) directory

Simply open a notepad & save it as .htaccess without any extension behind. If already have the .htaccess uploaded to your server, simply edit it like in step 2.

Editing .htaccess File

Paste the following code in the .htaccess file:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http(s)?://(www\.)?yoursite.com [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http(s)?://(www\.)?yoursite2.com [NC]
RewriteRule \.(jpg|jpeg|png|gif)$ http://yoursite.com/other_image.jpe[NC,R,L]

Note: In Last line of the above code the image other_image.jpg is not hotlink protected or your server can go into an endless loop.

In the above code yoursite2.com can used be stop hotlinking from specific outside domains only, such as myspace.com, blogger.com and livejournal.com

If you want to display 403 Forbidden error on hotlinking simply paste the following code instead of the code shown above.

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http(s)?://(www\.)?yoursite.com [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http(s)?://(www\.)?yoursite2.com [NC]
RewriteRule .*\.(jpe?g|gif|bmp|png)$ - [F]

Remember, Hotlinked images can only be replaced by other images, not with an HTML page.

Using .htaccess to prevent hotlinking helps you block some legitimate traffic using these techniques.

What do you think about other ways to prevent images hotlinking on your blogs? Do you like this technique? Share with us your views.

Our 100th Post & A SEO Link Building Contest

Inforids.com has had 100 posts with this! We’ve made it a long way since our humble beginnings from April 19th, 2009 on. Online for about 6 months we’ve had more than 1000 comments, thousands of unique views, and now we have reached our 100th post & we’re going to run a contest.

We’ve really enjoyed writing these posts up and plan to keep on churning them out.  One thing we’ve missed though is discussion & link love. Blogs are great for a lot of reasons, but perhaps the best reason is the fact that you can comment on posts with your own ideas, get link love and get into conversations with other readers.  In doing so, you can get new ideas, offer your own expertise, and make new connections in the process! It’s a win-win scenario for everybody.

So to foster some more discussion, project writing & link love on this blog, we’re going to run a contest.

The Contest

The objective of this contest is to collect some Best Search Engine Optimization Techniques to allow people to discover, interact & help  new bloggers and to share the link love.

Topic of Post: Search Engine Optimization Techniques

  4. After We publish the final list of selected entries you write a post on your blog linking to all of them.

In order to avoid some selfish participants would receive backlinks and not link to other people rule number 3 will ensure that every participant agrees to link to every other participant.

The mathematics behind it is pretty simple, if 50 people participate in this contest you will write a post linking to 49 people (according to rule 3)and in exchange you will receive 49 quality backlinks as link love.

So, As a prize if 50 participants are selected then each one will get 49 quality backlinks as link love.
